The last four weeks I’ve been playing Wordle, an online word game that someone created and offered to the world for free. There’s one 5-letter word a day, and you have six tries to figure it out. And then a major mainstream newspaper bought this puzzle. Immediately it felt different to me: the words had a darker feel. I mentioned this to someone I know, and he said no, the man who created the game had provided a year’s worth of words. But today this person texted me that I was right, the paper had changed the words right away.
